Men on a Mission

“For every thousand dollars donated to our quarterly mission fund, Paul and I will ride a mile” said Larry Henney, PCG Texas athlete. Little did they know that the congregation at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury Texas would raise an astonishing gift to missions of $125,000.So, on Monday October 17, Larry Henney and his cycling buddy, Paul Rummage took off on their challenge of 125 miles. Neither had ever ridden over 100 miles in a single day! Larry started coaching with PCG Associate Coach Keith Nelson just three weeks before the event, who is mentored by PCG Elite Coach Rickey Wray Wilson. With only a few weeks to build and taper for the big day, Keith and Rickey focused Sweet Spot, FRC and Recovery workouts with a mini-taper the last week before the event. They shared insights into nutrition, hydration, and the mental aspects of going long. After their power analysis, Larry knew where to keep his power output to manage his efforts an

Vivek Tops a Personal Podium.

For some of us athletes the top of the podium looks a little bit different. HUGE congratulations going out to Vivek!!! Check out Vivek's inspirational testimonial below on how coach Nathan Ayers helped him top his personal podium. "Today I, as a mid-50-year-old diabetic, was formally taken off Metformin (diabetes medication). And for that I owe my running/cycling coach, Nate Ayers. Without him it would have been impossible to even maintain my fitness, much less improve it to where this was an option. And I wasn't just on a wee bit - I was on the maximum clinical limit for Metformin! My path started with dropping a ton of weight before meeting Nate but like most, I had previously lost a ton of weight only to put it back on. Enter Nate. I found Peaks Coaching from a fellow Peloton'er. I had just purchased an outdoor bike 3 months before but felt like I was just doing random workouts and didn't know how to design a proper training plan. Every training plan I saw online require

PCG athlete Nicole Erato coached by elite coach Paul Ozier crushed the competition this past weekend. Nicole just returned from Majorca in June where she spent a year training. “I had the chance there to work on my technical skills on beautiful roads and I was racking up hundreds of kilometres, riding almost every day. There was a good mix of mountains, downhills and switchbacks, so in this race on Sunday I noticed I didn’t lose any momentum anywhere. I felt really confident.”

Coached by elite/master level coach Bill Goss, Fred Wittwer takes down the win and stands tall on the 65+ Masters Podium Saturday October 29, 2022Fred and I have a couple of dozen wins over many seasons, including a few National Championships. Fred usually starts to roll around this time as the weather gets colder, so when the gun sounded Saturday he was off! I'll let his words describe his race:"Yeah had a long drive 3:45 hrs to get there ,pretty stressed from driving around DC & Arlington. I had a second row start.which started in 6 "" of mud for about 75 yards. Course was soft and heavy with fair amount of climbing and technical sections. Came out of start in about 8th place. Really felt flat. Worked my way into the lead at the end of 1st lap. I was able to ride the long mud section many had to run. Got the lead and never looked back. Second was a minute back third was 2min back. I was happy to win despite not feeling 100%."

One of Hunter's athletes Jeane Silfanus takes the win steadly pacing herself up the last hill to steal the win! Read her recap of her win in the PRURide Indonesia Gran Fondo below..."First of all, thank you so much for your programs for me, your time, your attention too.I finished strong yesterday Hunter, I enjoyed the race, I was pacing correctly, and I was able to climb at the end very well even without pushing too hard. Heart rate remained pretty stable as well. I was in 3rd going into the final climb, and was able to maintain my steady pace and catcth them both. I followed and remembered all the fueling information you thought me from my last event in May. Thank you Hunter 🙏🙇🏻♀️I won the first female overall, and won the QOM category. 🏆Thank God all went super well 🙏"

Chris Hill's Hillsboro Hustle

PCG athlete Chris Hill hit the podium this past weekend in the Hillsboro Hustle on the 78-mile course. He took 4th place overall and was the 2nd place male with a time of 4:48:15. Here is Chris' short recap of the race... "Super strong group at the front. Brutal winds gusting to over 35 mph added some spice to the race. Pro cyclists Lauren and Matt Stephens rode with us today. I think the wind scared off many who had signed up. 4th overall and 2nd among the men was a pretty good showing for me today. Hillsboro Hustle 78.7-mile course." Chris will be joining us for our Fall Epic Gravel Camp and is gearing up for the Hill Country Hundy (100 mile) gravel race in November. He is coached by elite/master level coach Rickey Wray Wilson.

New JUNIOR WORLD RECORD!
By:
Hunter
on
OCT
19
Jonas Walton at 18 years old and his last target as a junior before moving to the senior ranks, was to go after the junior hour record set earlier this year by Fred Meredith (https://cyclingtips.com/2022/03/british-junior-cyclist-rides-49-1-km-hour-record/) at 49.2 km. Jonas has been competing on the road since 2020 and rides for the Hottubes team. His record ride was only his 5th time on the track and he didn’t even have a bike. So, on a borrowed bike, we dialed in the fit and ran the numbers. Jonas rode right to plan and set the new record at 50.972 km!! Congratualtions Jonas and Coach Todd Scheske.
